Stoke City 1-4 Man City

Nolito

Life at the bet365 Stadium started very poorly for Stoke as Manchester City thumped them on their own turf.

A brace of goals from Sergio Aguero and Nolito ensured the Manchester side emerged with a comfortable victory.

In truth, Stoke had matched the visitors for the first half hour, but Mike Dean surprisingly pointed to the spot after a bit of shirt pulling from Ryan Shawcross.

Aguero followed up his successful penalty with a header 10 minutes later to effectively seal three points before half-time.

Dean, who had an ‘interesting’ afternoon, waved away Stoke’s claims for a penalty when the impressive Joe Allen was brought down, but inexplicably awarded a spot-kick against Raheem Sterling in the 49th minute. Bojan converted from 12 yards and it was game on.

Stoke failed to push on after the goal though and, in windy conditions, Man City coped far better, ultimately scoring two late goals to put the icing on the cake.

The Potters now have an important period ahead of them- investment in the team is imperative before the close of the transfer window.

Stoke: Given, Bardsley, Shawcross, Wollscheid, Pieters, Allen, Whelan, Imbula (Walters ), Bojan, Arnautovic (Ramadan 88), Diouf. Unused: Haugaard, Cameron, Muniesa, Adam, Crouch.
