Ladies In Cup Action

Stoke City Ladies return to home action this weekend, hoping to pick up their first competitive win of the season.

The girls fell to a 5-3 defeat at Leicester last week following an opening day loss at home to Blackburn.

But the arrival of Birmingham & West Midlands in the League Cup could well provide the springboard to kick-start Stoke’s season.

Birmingham & West Midlands lie in Midlands Division 1- one rung below The Potters- which makes Stoke favourites to progress, although the visitors come off the back of a 2-1 away win at Long Eaten United.

Stoke had a morale boosting victory in a midweek runout against Notts County’s development squad and will be hoping to follow that up with success on Sunday.

A late couple of goals from Hannah Keryakopolis and captain Meg Bowyer made last week’s reverse at newly promoted Leicester a little more palatable, particularly after the ladies were 4-1 down at half-time- Lucy Ridgway’s goal scant consolation in the opening 45 minutes.

The team will take heart from the spirit of going to the final whistle though and Birmingham & West Midlands will be wary of a side eager to chalk off a first victory.

Kick-off on Sunday is scheduled for 2:30pm at Community Drive, ST6 1QF. Get on down and cheer the Stoke City Ladies towards victory.
