Alex Neil was asked about Speculation revolving around him and the Stoke City Manager Job
“It’s speculation isn’t it?”. “As far as I’m concerned it’s business as usual for us, I’ve not made anything of it.
“I think it’s a reflection on what the team have delivered. We have a great set of lads here who have performed very well so far.
“I’ve got one focus – Preston North End, that’s it. I came here a couple of years ago. I’ve enjoyed my time here and got a lot of scope to finish off the job.
If we win today we go top of the League – albeit for 24 hours. To say that, 15 games in, shows it’s not a flash in the pan.
“This squad is as strong as I’ve had since I have been here. I love working with them and think we can achieve something special.”
So Nathan Jones has left as Manager of Stoke City FC & taken the charismatic figure Paul Hart with him.
Jones despite the abysmal results under his time as manager he still left with the vast majority of Stoke Fans not calling for his head.
There has been massive failings from board level downwards over the past 4 years, the fans now have starting to realise just how far we have fallen from that 9th place Premier League finish & FA cup final.
Stoke’s next appointment is massive, for one he must stave of relegation this season. Relegation would be catastrophic for the club, FFP is looming & the club carrying a number of high earning bums that we cannot shift of the wage bill.
The next manager must be able to work on a budget, Nathan Jones saw there isn’t the money available like previously to buy our way from trouble.
Having little money to invest in a the squad, a squad that possesses 3 different managers cast offs is a hard task for whoever takes over, so whoever it is must be a respected manager that’s not going to take any messing around.
The obvious choice for most Stoke fans is Tony Pulis, but the bookies have Prestons Alex Neil as favourite.
Surely Neil would not leave high flying Preston to come to lowly Stoke would be?
So who next?
Whoever it is, I’m sure the Coates family have already had talks with them and are sure they will come now Nathan Jones has been sacked.
Could Chris Hughton have previously turned us down a few weeks back because he did not want to step on Nathan’s toes, now he’s gone could the talks resume
Nathan Jones today has been sacked as the manager of Stoke City FC
Nathan was appointed Stoke Manager following the sacking of Gary Rowett in January 2019 with Stoke sitting 14th in the Championship, 8 points away from a play off spot.
Nathan Jones’s tenure started with great optimism after coming across to the fans as a very passionate man, who had a distinct philosophy & direction something Stoke have lacked in the past 4 years.
Nathan has had to endure a lot of problems left over from the Hughes era that Rowett had partly solved but not eradicated completely, it’s partly those problems and the fact Jones could not get his philosophy over to the players quick enough that has cost him his job.
Jones’s own transfer dealing have not helped matters as few have improved our team, infact Jones himself doesn’t play many after poor showings when called upon.
Stoke have just won 6 times in league and cup matches in the 38 games Jones has been in charge, that a win rate of less than 16% which is appalling to say the least.
Stoke currently sit 2nd bottom of the Championship table with relegation a real threat even after 14 games having won just 2 leagues game all season.
Nathan Jones I’m sure will becomes a good Manager in the future but Stoke is just to early in his career for him. Stoke need an experienced manager who has seen it all & dealt with most.
