Aston Villa have had a good start to this season league campaign managing two win out of two and sit 4th in the Premier league, Villa are still to concede a goal in the league. Villa have not lost a game since July, 9 games in total.
Stoke on the other hand have had an indifferent start to their league campaign, having won, drew & lost one of their 3 games so far. One stand out point is Stoke have only conceded in one game of their 5 league and cup outings against Top of the Table Bristol City.
How do we usually fair versus Aston Villa
Stoke have played Villa 117 times in the past with the Birmingham side coming out on top in nearly half of the encounters, though recently Stoke have started getting the better of the games.

Last fixture at Villa Park
Our last fixture at Villa park ended in a 2-2 Draw with Kodija scoring in the 84th minute to level the game after Joe Allen & Benik Afobe seemed to have won the tie that Stoke deserved to get the 3 points from.
After two league games without a win, tomorrow’s game versus Preston North End has added pressure, not ideal when our record v PNE isn’t the best.
In fact in our history of 105 meetings PNE have a far better record
Stoke Wins 35 Draws 22 Preston Wins 48
Last 10 meetings
Lost 5 Drew 3 Won 2
Stoke have only won 4 times against Preston since the turn of the millennium
Last fixture away at Preston
Our last fixture at Deepdale saw Jack Butland do everything possible to get a video on You’ve been Framed as his comical display saw him concede 3 goals, two of the shots wouldn’t of even tested a 10 year old never mind a supposed England international. Stoke were never at the races that game and only got a consolation late on Via James McClean.Score Preston 3-1 Stoke.
Stoke versus Gillingham is not a regular fixture thank god, in fact Wednesday nights Carabao Cup game will only be the 18th time the two sides have played.

Last fixture at the bet365 Stadium
The last time the two sides played each other at the bet365 Stadium was back in 2004 when Stoke ran out 2-0 winners in a league game. Gifton Noel Williams & Ade Akinbiyi with the goals. A notable player sat on the opposing bench that game, as future Stoke player Mama Sidibe played the last 30mins, probably a reason why we signed him.
Cup run so far
Stoke started the Carabao Cup campaign with home game versus Blackpool, Stoke were not really at the races that game and needed penalties to progress after the game finished 0-0. Second round was as far as most fans thought we’d get after drawing Wolves away, especially after seeing the strength of the team that Wolves played. Stoke delivered a near perfect defensive display with threat coming from the pace of Jacob Brown who eventually scored the winner
Gillingham started their Carabao campaign with a 1-0 win over Southend, Gillingham were hanging on at the end as they had been reduced to 10 men with 30mins to play. Reward for their win was home tie versus Championship side Coventry. The game ended 1-1 & The Gills went through via a penalty shoot out
What do you expect the outcome to be versus Gillingham?
Stoke welcome Bristol City to the bet365 Stadium in our first home game of the season. Once again the government sanctions due to Covid 19 means that no fans will be present to watch the game.
Stoke have a half decent record against Bristol City in the 56 previous fixtures, Stoke have won just under half of those games.

Last fixture at the bet365 Stadium
The last fixture against Bristol City at home was Just over 12 months ago. Bristol City triumphed 2-1 in the Championship clash. Stoke had started brightly in the game with Sam Clucas scoring after 4mins, thought things took a turn for the worse when Joe Allen was shown a red card & Tom Edwards scoring an own goal to give Bristol City the lead.
Season so far
Stoke started the league season with a decent draw away to Millwall. That point pales into insignificance if we fail to continue the great performance we managed against a very Strong Wolves side in the Carabao Cup.
Bristol City started their season with a great 2-1 home win against Coventry. Bristol City got off to a great start in that game taking the lead with the first 2minutes. Bristol built on that win with a 4-0 win over Northampton in the Carabao Cup.
Question now for Michael O’Neill is to who he picks to start versus Bristol City. Our supposed first team and our second string affectively both produced brilliant defensive displays in Stoke’s last two fixtures resulting in Stoke not conceding a goal so far this season.
Well after beating Blackpool in the first round of the Carabao Cup, drawing Premier League Wolves away was not the match we wanted.
Will Michael O’Neill use this cup game to bring some of the players that didn’t play versus Millwall upto speed or does O’Neill want to keep a consistent side?
Stoke have an average record against Wolves in the 150 previous fixtures, Stoke have won a third of those games.
Stoke Wins 50 Draws 35 Wolves Wins 65
Last 10 meetings
Stoke record over the the last 10 games is slightly better with Stoke winning 50% of the games played
Lost 2 Drew 3 Won 5
Last fixture at Molinuex
The last fixture at Molinuex was back in 2011 when Stoke triumphed 2-1 in a Premier League clash. Peter Crouch scores the winner after Stoke trailed 1-0 at half time.
Season so far
Stoke started the league season with a decent draw away to Millwall, another side that are expected like Stoke to be challenging for the play off spots at least.
Wolves started their season with a great 2-0 away win at Sheffield United, Wolves started the game fast scoring two goals in the first 7 mins.
Question for Thursdays game is what sides do both Stoke & Wolves play, do both play their first teams or play a younger team to alleviate some of the fixture congestion the shortened season has caused.
