Pulis arrives At Wednesday on Saturday to make Stoke’s life more difficult

Match Preview:  Sheffield Wednesday v Stoke

Saturday’s game has become a much more difficult task with the appointment of Tony Pulis in the opposition dugout. We have an abysmal record against ex managers, I can’t see this game been much different than the other games played against Pulis.

Pulis is still waiting for his first win as Wednesday manager, though he’s only managed them for one game. That game showed he had already installed his ethos into the squad, also some of the set piece routines we have seen while he managed us.

How do we usually fair versus Wednesday

We have played Sheffield Wednesday on 95 occasions prior to Saturday’s game

Stoke Wins 34
Draws 23
Wednesday  Wins 38

Last 10 meetings

Lost 3
Drew 4
Won 3

Last fixture at the Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday

Stoke started slowly in the game, which is nothing new and found themselves 1-0 down after Massimo Luongo scored shortly before half time. Stoke had already made two changes in the first half as trying to get a foothold in the game but to no avail. Wednesday won the game 1-0 but a spirited second half showing was not capitalised on as only one of our 14 shots resulted in the keeper getting his gloves dirty.

Form (last 6 fixtures)

Stoke

Swansea 2-0 Stoke
Stoke 1-0 Rotherham

Watford 3-2 Stoke

Reading 0-3 Stoke
Stoke 4-3 Huddersfield

Stoke 2-3 Norwich

Sheffield Wednesday

Rotherham 3-0 Wednesday
Wycombe 1-0 Wednesday

Wednesday 1-0 Bournemouth

Wednesday 1-1 Millwall
Preston 1-0 Wednesday

Swansea 1-1 Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday sit second bottom in the league with only Derby to laugh at bellow them, this is a decent achievement after 13 games having started on -6 points.
Wednesday are in poor form mind you winning once in the last 8 matches, but form could be ripped up with the appointment of a new manager and the bounce that gives.

What do you expect the outcome to be versus Sheffield Wednesday?

Who will top the league come Wednesday morning. Stoke,Norwich or another

Match Preview:  Stoke versus Norwich

Stoke go into Tuesday nights game with goals all over the pitch, we have scored 21 goals so far this season in league & cup with 9 different scorers. Tyrese Campbell has 5 goals & 5 assists making him one of the most inform players in the league, let’s hope that form lasts the season.

How do we usually fair versus Norwich

We have played Norwich of 56 occasions prior to Tuesdays game:

Stoke Wins 21
Draws 18
Norwich Wins 17

Last 10 meetings

Stoke are unbeaten in the last 5 meetings and have only lost 4 of the last 15 meetings

Lost 2
Drew 4
Won 4

Last fixture at the bet365 Stadium against Norwich

The last meeting between the two sides at the bet365 Stadium was back in April 2019, the game ended 2-2. It was a very open game with both sides attempting 17 plus shots, though Stoke’s goals came from unusual scorers with Ashley Williams & Tom Edwards getting on the score sheets.

Stoke will probably line up with only 2 players from that game in the squad, 3 if Verlinden makes the bench.

Form (last 6 fixtures)

Stoke

Stoke 3-2 Brentford
Swansea 2-0 Stoke
Stoke 1-0 Rotherham

Watford 3-2 Stoke
Reading 0-3 Stoke
Stoke 4-3 Huddersfield

Norwich

Norwich 2-1 Wycombe

Brentford 1-1 Norwich
Bristol City 1-3 Norwich
Norwich 0-0 Millwall

Norwich 1-0 Swansea
Middlesbrough 0-1 Norwich

It’s fair to say Norwich isn’t going to be a walk in the park this Tuesday night. Norwich are unbeaten in 8 games winning 6 of those. The sit top of the league for a reason, but Stoke could replace them with a win (depending on other results on the night)

What do you expect the outcome to be versus Norwich?

Will Stoke terrorise the Terriers

Match Preview:  Stoke versus Huddersfield

Stoke since the start of 2020 have the most clean sheets of all the EFL sides in league & cup competitions. This stat is down to the heroics of Adam Davies & Angus Gunn. Unfortunately for Saturday’s game both keepers are missing due to injury that’s likely to see both missing till the new year.

Stoke will give England U21 goalkeeper Josef Bursik the opportunity to impress after being recalled from his loan at Doncaster Rovers.

How do we usually fair versus Huddersfield

We have played Huddersfield 76 times before:

Stoke Wins 29
Draws 25

Huddersfield Wins 22

Last 10 meetings

Stoke don’t have the best record over the last ten games, something we need to change. Hopefully the 5-2 win on New Year’s Day in our last meeting will be the start of a run of good results versus the Terriers

Lost 4
Drew 3
Won 2

Last fixture at the bet365 Stadium against Huddersfield

The last fixture versus Huddersfield was a case of not taking our chances, this left Huddersfield to leave the bet365 Stadium to leave with all 3 points in a game they only had one shot on target.

That one shot by Bacuna was one more than Stoke though, having had 18 shots during the game Stoke never made Kamil Grabara get his gloves dirty.

Form (last 6 fixtures)

Stoke

Stoke 2-2 Barnsley
Stoke 3-2 Brentford

Swansea 2-0 Stoke
Stoke 1-0 Rotherham

Watford 3-2 Stoke
Reading 0-3 Stoke

Huddersfield

Huddersfield 1-0 Derby

Huddersfield 1-2 Preston

Birmingham 2-1 Huddersfield

Millwall 0-3 Huddersfield

Huddersfield 1-2 Bristol city

Huddersfield 1-1 Luton

Standout performance for Huddersfield during those last 6 games was a 3-0 win at the New Den, which shows they are not a team we should take lightly

What do you expect the outcome to be versus Huddersfield?

Who will be King of the Madejski Stadium as Michael O’Neill’s men have a Royal date.

Match Preview:  Stoke versus Reading

Nobody, including probably Reading fans expected them to have the start to the season they have done. Reading sit top of the table with 10 games played but have hit a blip in results, losing the last two games.

Stoke versus Reading hasn’t been as a regular fixture as it seems with just over 50 fixtures in our history.

How do we usually fair versus Reading

Stoke Wins 18

Draws 17
Reading Wins 17

Last 10 meetings

Stoke have a half decent record as of late versus Reading, we’re unbeaten in the last 7 games though 5 of those have been draws, including the last 4 games.

Lost 3
Drew 5
Won 2

Last fixture at The Madejski Stadium

The last fixture at the Madejski Stadium was back in June. The game ended 1-1, it was a fairly even game which Reading took an early lead it. Stoke had to wait for a 92nd minute equaliser by Nick Powell.

Form (last 6 fixtures)

Stoke

Luton 0-2 Stoke
Stoke 2-2 Barnsley
Stoke 3-2 Brentford

Swansea 2-0 Stoke
Stoke1-0 Rotherham

Watford 3-2 Stoke

Reading

Middlesbrough 1-1 Reading
Reading 1-1 Wycombe
Reading 3-0 Rotherham
Blackburn 2-4 Reading
Coventry 3-2 Reading

Reading 0-3 Preston

Reading had gone 7 games unbeaten, winning 6 of them before the shock defeat to Coventry. Has that result knocked the stuffing out of them, the performance versus Preston would suggest so. Hopefully they won’t bounce back against Stoke.

What do you expect the outcome to be versus Reading?

Stoke aim to create gap between themselves and Watford

Match Preview:  Stoke versus Watford

Stoke travel to London hoping to return with 3 points for a change. Watford have an identical record to the start of the season as Stoke, winning 4 and losing two games so far.

How do we usually fair versus Watford

Stoke Wins 15
Draws 7
Watford Wins 14

Last 10 meetings

Stoke haven’t played Watford much in the past having been in different league for most of our history. Stoke had a very good Premier League record against only losing 1 of the 6 fixtures. However prior to that we could win for toffee.

Lost 3
Drew 3
Won 4

Last fixture at Vicarage Rd

The last time we faced Watford at Vicarage Rd we were still a Premier League club. Shaqiri was still in the starting eleven & Kevin Wimmer started the game. Stoke won the game with a 16th minute striker from Darren Fletcher

Form (last 6 fixtures)

Stoke

Stoke 1-1 Birmingham
Luton 0-2 Stoke
Stoke 2-2 Barnsley
Stoke 3-2 Brentford

Swansea 2-0 Stoke
Stoke 1-0 Rotherham

Watford

Reading 1-0 Watford
Derby 0-1 Watford
Watford 3-1 Blackburn
Watford 1-1 Bournemouth

Wycombe 1-1 Watford
Barnsley 1-0 Watford

Watford have not won in their last three games which was a surprise having played Barnsley & Wycombe during that time.

What do you expect the outcome to be versus Watford?
