Stitching The Pitch

The process of stitching Stoke’s new pitch together is gathering pace.

Stoke will play on turf supplied by Desso Grassmaster, which is a hybrid grass.

It is a 100% natural pitch, reinforced by millions of Desso articificial tube types.

The cabins that you see in the photo are specialised injectors that will inject approximately 20 million artificial tube fibres with natural grass- they move up and down the pitch whilst injecting, as you can see in this video.

Grass roots then intertwine with the 20cm deep artificial tube fibres.

The end result of this stitching gives a pitch that can withstand three times more wear than a fully natural pitch.

Work is on schedule and the pitch will be ready for the first home match of the season against Manchester City.
