Bruno Martins Indi Porto Stoke

Stoke have signed Bruno Martins Indi on loan from Porto.

The defender arrives with a view to a permanent move next summer and replaces Philipp Wollscheid, who has joined Wolfsburg in a similar deal.

A Dutch international, Indi was part of his national side’s famous victory over Spain in the 2014 World Cup and will be keen to return to the international setup after a year away.

He joins up with fellow Dutch internationals Erik Pieters and Ibrahim Afellay at the bet365, as well as former Porto team-mate Giannelli Imbula.

Indi has been predominantly signed to partner captain Ryan Shawcross, but he is also able to slot in at left back- something that will keep Pieters on his toes in the coming months.

And the club have once again been able to beat other clubs to the signature of a top class defender- the likes of Liverpool and Galatasaray were linked with Indi over the summer.

Stoke have hopefully landed a man fully capable of filling the void Robert Huth left many years ago and, at 24, has plenty in the tank if he were to ultimately sign a permanent deal.

Elsewhere, Stoke have added Luton’s Cameron McJannett to their U18 squad and are expected to wrap up the signing of Dundee United defender Harry Souttar.
