Euro 2016: Austria
Austria’s qualifying campaign for Euro 2016 was exceptional- winning all their games bar one.
One man who was extremely influential during their qualification was our very own Marko Arnautovic. The winger started all 10 of Austria’s matches, scoring three goals and assisting two others.
His form for his country coincided with an upturn in consistency for his club and the nation will be hoping Arnie can show his quality on the biggest stage in France.
The most intriguing group match comes in Paris, as Arnautovic takes on Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo. You’d suspect the winner of that particular match will go on to top Group F.
With the likes of David Alaba, Marc Janko, Christian Fuchs and former Stoke trialist Robert Almer in between the sticks, Austria have the foundations to go far in the tournament. Should they get past Hungary and Iceland- as you’d expect- then they are likely to come up against Belgium, Italy or Sweden in the first knockout stage, which is a tantalising proposition.
Given their form in the qualifiers, Arnautovic and co could be in France for quite a while…
