Euro 2016: England
There might not be any Stoke City players in the current England squad but most Stoke Loud and Proud followers will be supporting the Three Lions this summer.
England have been drawn in an interesting group-coming up against Russia, Slovakia and the big one against Wales.
With plenty of offensive options, Roy Hodgson has opted to take an attacking squad to France with five strikers in his final 23.
Whether Hodgson has decided upon his starting 11 remains to be seen, although if friendlies are anything to go by any chance Jamie Vardy has of starting will see him stuck out on the wing which would be a complete waste of talent.
It wouldn’t be a true tournament build-up without numerous question marks of course and, as always, injuries may well play a part in France.
England’s lack of depth in defence could come back to haunt them and eyebrows were raised when the likes of Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson were called up ahead of title winner Danny Drinkwater, but the squad has now been chosen and the nation will support them all the way.
So what of England’s chances this summer? Progression from the group seems more than likely and most supporters would expect at least a quarter final place at the extended European Championships.
Flags and bunting are already being put out ahead of another summer of hope- barbecues, beers and, most importantly, football.
It’s less than a week until England kick-off and I for one can’t wait.
