Jack Butland’s return to training this week should give all Stoke fans a huge boost.
Butland’s regained fitness is as good as us dipping into the transfer market and making a marquee signing.
The shot stopper had made the highest number of saves in the Premier League at the time he fractured his ankle and we all saw how Stoke crumbled at the back without Butland between the sticks.
14 goals were leaked in the first four matches following his injury and at a time when Joe Hart has struggled, Butland must have his eyes on the England number one jersey.
With plenty of recent gym work behind him, Butland now has arguably his biggest personal season ahead of him.
Hopefully Butland and his defence can stay injury free over the coming months.
With continuity comes better form, and should Butland put in the same calibre of performances as last season then I see no reason why the new England manager won’t pick him for the national side.
There was another player putting his boots on again this week.
Marc Wilson has been on the sidelines since January and, like Butland, missed Euro 2016 due to injury.
The versatile defender didn’t get as much action as he’d have liked last season but there is no doubt that Wilson is an important member of the squad.
It’s great to have the pair of them back fit.
