Ladies Bow Out Of Cup

Stoke City Ladies were knocked out of the FA WPL Cup yesterday.

Despite dominating for long periods, Stoke only managed to find the back of the net once, ultimately losing 2-1 to Derby.

A fairly tepid first-half was followed up by a goal just 30 seconds into the second period, with Derby opening the scoring from the edge of the area.

The goal sprung Stoke into life, and Ashleigh Hayes showed persistence pays off, equalising having come close on a number of occasions.

1-1 after 90 minutes meant the game went to extra-time, and it was Derby who were to progress to the next round.

They escaped the offside trap to score a decisive third goal of the match, although there was still time for Cassie Hyde to see a header cleared off the line.

The Ladies’ next match is at home to Leicester on Sunday 23 October.
