Arnie Signs Up
It looked for a long time as though Marko Arnautovic’s time in a Stoke shirt was coming to an end.
The likes of Everton and West Ham all sniffed around but, ultimately, he didn’t want to leave Stoke.
Arnautovic has signed a four-year contract with The Potters, ending months of speculation.
The Austrian is one of a small handful of players that can win a game in an instant. He showed on numerous occasions last season- notably against the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea- that he can do just that.
And now there will be many more occasions for Arnautovic to showcase his talent in a red and white shirt.
His re-signing is a huge signal of intent not only from him, but also the club. It’s arguably the biggest signing we could have made this summer, particularly having lost the influence of Steven Nzonzi in a similar situation 12 months ago.
It shows how much Stoke have progressed in just a year, as we aim to push even higher than our three consecutive ninth placed finishes.
Tonight, Arnautovic will take to the field against Orlando City for the beginning of his new era at Stoke.
Last season saw ‘Arnie’ score 12 times and with less than a year on his contract it seemed only a matter of time before he departed.
But the vision of the hierarchy- as well as Mr Coates putting his money where his mouth is this week- has been enough to persuade Arnautovic to remain at the bet365 Stadium beyond his 30th birthday.
Here’s to the next four years, Marko. Great to keep you with us.
PS- Just to blow our own trumpet, we brought you the news of Arnautovic’s extension earlier in the week:
