It was Farewell to Bojan

The 5th of May 2019 is the date when we witnessed Bojan playing in a Stoke shirt for the last time.

Bojan came on as an 82nd minute substitute as Stoke claimed a 2-2 draw against Sheffield United.

Tyrese Campbell has upped his training with the first team, though O’Neill thinks he’s a few weeks away yet from Playing. Sima is also a few weeks away, the rest of the squad bar Fox have all trained and available for selection.

The game versus Sheffield United is the middle of a three game run of sides that have real aspirations of getting promoted. Staying unbeaten from those three games would of been the aim and after the great win over WBA  last time out it’s a distinct possibility we could get something out the game on Saturday too.

How have we faired in previous meetings.

Saturday’s fixture will be the 107th meeting between the two sides

Stoke wins 34

Draws 30

Sheffield United wins 42

The last meeting

The last meeting between the two sides was back in May 2019. It was a significant game for two Stoke players, as it was the last time we saw Bojan play a game for Stoke. It was also the game that Ryan Shawcross scored his last league goal in a Potters shirt. Shawcross scored in the 69th minute to but Stoke 2-1 up in the game, but Enda Stevans equalised with 13 minutes left to play.

Form (last 4 games)

Watford 1-3 Stoke (cup)

Stoke 2-0 Hull

Preston 1-1 Stoke

Stoke 1-0 WBA

Sheffield United

Sheffield United (2)2-2(4)Southampton (cup)

Sheffield United 1-0 Derby

Middlesbrough 2-0 Sheffield United

Bournemouth 2-1 Sheffield United

Who’s the threat

Sheffield United have a great squad full of quality, but even with that squad depth they have some stand out names in the there. Billy Sharp has been around for what feels like donkey years but is still finding the back of the net, the same can be said about Oliver Norwood. The one player that Stoke do need to keep an eye on is Morgan Gibbs-White, the 21 year old is on loan from Wolves to gain first team experience and his showing why many clubs have watched his progress.

How could Stoke set up for the game.

If it’s not broken then don’t try and fix it. I don’t expect much difference in the playing staff from the side that played WBA, bar maybe Thompson dropping out for Romain Sawyers who was eligible against his parent club.
