Josh Tymon faces his former club fresh from picking up goal of the month award

Last time the Stoke fans watched this fixture it was one to remember in more ways than we thought at the time. Stoke ran out 5-1 winners in what was to be the last game fans were allowed into stadiums before Covid restrictions took over, leaving us left watching on our TV sets.

In between this and that fixture Stoke have steadily built a stronger squad, whilst Hull have been relegated and promoted back into the Championship.

Josh Tymon is having a brilliant start to the season and is up there with our player of the season so far. Tymon faces is former club days after picking up the goal of the month award for his goal against Nottingham Forest.

How have we faired in previous meetings.

Saturday’s fixture will be the 71st meeting between the two sides

Stoke wins 31

Draws 19

Hull wins 20

The last meeting

As I’ve said the last meeting was back in March 2020 before COVID destroyed many lives and livelihoods. Stoke were scintillating that day & could of quiet easily scored a few more than the five we did score. Goals from Powell, Clucas & Campbell put Stoke into a 3-0 half time lead. Hull did get a consolation before Clucas & Powell again ended the rout

Form (last 4 games)

Stoke

Stoke 2-1 Huddersfield

Stoke 1-1 Barnsley

Derby 2-1 Stoke

Watford 1-3 Stoke (cup)

Hull

Hull 0-0 Bournemouth

Swansea 0-0 Hull

Blackburn 2-0 Hull

Hull 1-3 Sheffield United

Hull are not finding it easy back in the Championship, they are on a run of 8 games without a win in league and cup. Alarm bells should be ringing in Stoke fans ears at that prospect though, as we are always there to help out a struggling team.

Who’s the threat

Hull don’t have any household names as such, they are likely to start with Josh Magennis up front. There top scorer is right winger Lewis-Potter.

How could Stoke set up for the game.

Steven Fletcher will miss the game again through injury, so too will Joe Allen. Abdullah Sima took a knock in the Watford game and is expected to miss out, Powell has had no reaction from playing and is fit for selection. Alfie Doughty missed training Wednesday but trained again on Friday and is fit to play.

Tommy Smith is suspended

Possible starting XI
