Stoke hope to end a run of not winning any of the last seven FA Cup ties.
Stoke have not won a FA cup fixture since we beat Doncaster on the 9th Jan 2016.
Stoke have played 7 fixtures since that game losing 6 and drawing to Shrewsbury who beat us in the replay.
Stoke have a fair few injuries going into the fixture but should have Tommy Smith & Josh Tymon back in contention having missed the last game. Steven Fletcher though is added to the list as he was taken off in our last game versus Preston.
Stoke have never faced Leyton Orient in the FA Cup draw before but have played them in 4 league cup & Autoglass trophy fixtures. Stoke won 3 out the 4 with Orients win coming back in 1988 when they beat Stoke 2-1 at the Victoria ground meaning the two legged tie ended 3-3. Orient won the penalty shoot out 3-2
How have we faired in previous meetings.
Sundays fixture will be the 45th meeting between the two sides
Stoke wins 21
Draws 3
Leyton Orient wins 20
The last meeting
The last meeting was back in 2009 in the league Cup. Dave Kitson scored in extra time, the 94th minute 35 yard Volley was enough to send the potters into the next round. The game could and should of been in Orients hand before Kitson scored.
Form (last 4 games)
Stoke
QPR 0-2 Stoke
Stoke 0-0 Middlesbrough
Stoke 1-2 Derby
Stoke 1-2 Preston
Leyton Orient
Leyton Orient 4-0 Tranmere
Leyton Orient 4-1 Swindon
Leyton Orient 1-2 Crawley
Tranmere 1-0 Leyton Orient
Leyton Orient sit 10th in league two just 4 points behind Port Vale. Orient haven’t lost many games this season, in fact only Top of the league Forest Green have lost less. Orient though haven’t won as many as they would of liked drawing almost half of their league fixtures so far.
Who’s the threat
Orient have predominately played 3-4-1-2, Harry Smith & Aaron Drinan have 21 goals between them so far this season in the league. Left winger Theodore Archibald is having a good season and could cause some problems for whoever O’Neill starts at right back.
How could Stoke set up for the game.
O’Neill has said that Stoke will be missing 10 first team players with Steven Fletcher added to the lengthening list of players.
Stoke could and should play some of the academy players that have been knocking on the door for the past few weeks. Ian Wright’s Grandson D’margio Wright-Phillips has been on the bench recently, hopefully we will see him on the pitch at some point. Emre Tezgel is another player I’d like to see given a chance
