Stoke must overcome a 7 year Hoodoo if they want 3 points on Sunday
Stoke have failed to win a game in the Capital since Bojan scored versus Spurs back in November 2014. You have to go ever further back for a win at Loftus Rd.
Our last win at Loftus rd was the 20th April 2013, that win was only our second win ever at QPR so don’t expect to much from Sundays game.
QPR has not been a fixture we have faired well in, watching them play against Derby I can see a very difficult game as they look very good in areas we seems to struggle against.
QPR have pace, flair & are very well organised meaning Stoke will have to up their performance levels ten fold from what we saw against Blackburn or else the 1100 travelling fans are in for a tough watch.
Stoke have been rocked by the news that Jordon Thompsons injury that has been boggling him all season is not responding to rest, he will have surgery on it next week and will be out for 6-8 weeks. Good news however is that Sam Clucas & Abdullah Sima have both trained this week and are in contention for the match day squad.
How have we faired in previous meetings.
Saturday’s fixture will be the 42nd meeting between the two sides
Stoke wins 11
Blackburn wins 20
The last meeting
The last meeting between the sides was back in May at the bet365 Stadium. QPR deserved their 2-0 win as they defended strongly all over the pitch. Stoke’s task was not helped when Nick Powell went off injured after 13 mins
Our last game at Loftus rd ended 0-0. Neither sides goalkeeper was called in to action very much as both sides defences kept their keepers as bystanders for most of the game.
Form (last 4 games)
Luton 0-1 Stoke
Stoke 2-0 Peterborough
Bristol City 1-0 Stoke
Stoke 0-1 Blackburn
Blackpool 1-1 QPR
QPR 2-0 Luton
QPR 1-0 Huddersfield
Derby 1-2 QPR
QPR have won 5 of the last 10 games including the last 3 in a row lifting them into 3rd in the league as all the top 6 stutter, Stoke have won 3 of the last 10 games.
Who’s the threat
Ilias Chair is one to keep an eye on, he’s always been a skilful player but has found find his scoring to go with his ability to open up defences with his passing. We all know how Stoke struggle against pace and trickery, something QPR have in abundance.
How could Stoke set up for the game.
Joe Allen is back from suspension so I’d expect him to come straight back into the team allowing Tymon to resume in his wing back role. Tyrese Campbell still looks off the pace but that will only come with match fitness. Can see him starting in the bench versus QPR after his start v Blackburn.
