Stoke must stop free scoring Blackburn & in particular Ben Brereton if they want the 3 points
Stoke entertain Blackburn Rovers on Saturday hoping to extend the good home record we have this season.
Stoke however need to find the recipe which puts together a good performance & the right result. To often this season Stoke have played really well and deserved the 3 points but have failed to actually take them. Wednesday nights defeat against Bristol City was a casing point. Stoke on the other hand and won games this season they have just not been at the races in, think it’s just the nature of the Championship.
Blackburn are gunning for the Play off spots just like Stoke. Stoke born Ben Brereton Diaz is having an excellent season so far having recently declared himself as a Chilean National he’s scored 16 league goals this season which is impressive considering that’s virtually 50% of all the goals he’s scored in his entire career.
How have we faired in previous meetings.
Saturday’s fixture will be the 98th meeting between the two sides
Stoke wins 37
Blackburn wins 43
The last meeting
The last meeting between the sides was at Ewood park back in January. The game ended 1-1 with Stoke deserving on balance of play all 3 points but were not helped by James Chester’s red card late on in the game.
The last fixture at the bet365 Stadium was I. December. This was pretty much like our season so far as we won the game 1-0 but didn’t deserve a thing out the game after been battered for the full 90 mins. Stoke scored with their only shot and needed Josef Bursik to be on fine form to Stoke Blackburn scoring.
Form (last 4 games)
Blackpool 0-1 Stoke
Luton 0-1 Stoke
Stoke 2-0 Peterborough
Bristol City 1-0 Stoke
Blackburn 0-7 Fulham
Blackburn 3-1 Sheffield Utd
Bristol City 1-1 Blackburn
Blackburn 4-0 Peterborough
Blackburn are free scoring, only the top two Fulham & Bournemouth have scored more goals than the Lancashire side
Who’s the threat
Ben Brereton like I say has been in scintillating form scoring 16 goals. Sam Gallagher’s figures in comparison look small but he’s been causing defences problems meaning he’s been involved In 8 of Blackburns goals so far
How could Stoke set up for the game.
Stoke’s squad is being stretched as of late with injuries and now 2 stupid red cards In Two games. The latests one for Joe Allen is the most idiotic one as we already have two midfielders out injured meaning Allen’s suspension will give O’Neill some serious headaches.
Unfortunately it could mean one of our best players so far Josh Tymon could be moved out of position to cover Allen’s place meaning we have lost an attacking threat.
