Stoke shouldn’t be scared of Coventry after Saturdays performance

Stoke finally get to play Coventry after running scared according to their fans after the original fixture got postponed due to a covid outbreak in the Potters squad.

Neither side is on form if results are looked at, Stoke though did show they are starting to look better with the emergence of D’margio Wright-Phillips & new signing Lewis Baker & Phil Jagielka.

Stoke were unfortunate not to get anything out of the game versus Fulham. Stoke need to build upon that performance as it was just the clinical finishing of Fulham that allowed them to take the points, something I hope Coventry don’t replicate.

How have we faired in previous meetings.

Saturday fixture will be the 62nd meeting between the two sides

Stoke wins 29

Draws 9

Coventry wins 28

The last meeting

The last meeting was back in April last year when Coventry visited the bet365 Stadium and walked away with all 3 points. The game was an open affair with both side creating numerous chances, it’s was Stoke’s lack of hitting the target that allowed Coventry to win the game 3-2. The game saw young defender Connor Taylor make his debut for Stoke coming on for the injured James Chester after only 17mins.

Form (last 4 games)

Stoke

Stoke 1-2 Preston

Stoke 2-0 Orient(cup)

Hull 0-2 Stoke

Stoke 2-3 Fulham

Coventry

Coventry 0-1 Millwall

Coventry 1-0 Derby(cup)

Peterborough 1-4 Coventry

Coventry 1-2 QPR

Who’s the threat

Coventry striker Matt Godden has hit form this season, in his 12 starts he’s scored 10 goals. Coventry also have Martyn Waghorn who seems to find a good performer against the Potters.

How could Stoke set up for the game.

After the great team performance against Fulham it’s hard to say we should change anything, though 3 games in 6 games is going to be tough. Wright-Phillips trained after taking a knock in the game versus Fulham & is expected to keep his place. Nick Powell is back from injury but think he’ll be on the bench at most for the Coventry game, he’s more than likely be starting against Huddersfield on Friday.
