Stoke take on a Preston side unbeaten since August
Stoke travel to Deepdale Tuesday night hoping to build upon the 2-0 win over Hull on Saturday knowing a win could put them into the Automatic promotion spots ahead of Fridays opponents WBA.
Stoke have injury concerns over Harry Souttar & Mario Vrancic, both pivotal on Saturdays win. Vrancic is more than likely to pass a fitness test but the club have more concerns of the availability of Souttar.
The last two meeting between the sides have see red cards, Preston had Tom Barkhuizen sent off in the game at Deepdale. Stoke had Harry Souttar sent off in the game at the bet365 Stadium.
How have we faired in previous meetings.
Saturday’s fixture will be the 108th meeting between the two sides
Stoke wins 36
Draws 23
Preston wins 48
The last meeting
The last meeting was a 0-0 draw at the bet365 Stadium back in April. Stoke had created the better chances during the game but just could not get past Daniel Iversen in the Preston goal. Souttar was sent off late on for a professional foul, but there was little time for Preston to take advantage.
Form (last 4 games)
Stoke
Stoke 1-1 Barnsley
Derby 2-1 Stoke
Watford 1-3 Stoke (cup)
Stoke 2-0 Hull
Preston
Sheffield United 2-2 Preston
Preston 1-1 WBA
Preston 4-1 Cheltenham (cup)
Birmingham 0-0 Preston
Preston started the season in shocking fashion losing the first 3 games, they haven’t lost since then though but have drew more games than they would of liked meaning despite not losing since August they haven’t really climbed up the table past half way.
Who’s the threat
Preston haven’t got many household names but are usually a solid team that battle for each other. One player most will know is Scott Sinclair but he’s only started 2 of the games this season.
How could Stoke set up for the game.
Tommy Smith is available after his suspension and should regain his spot as right back despite Duhaney having a few decent performances. Up front O’Neill went with Powell and Brown versus Hull but I’d hope Surridge get the nod and Powell gets his midfield role back as he was much more effective there against Hull.
