SCFC Links: Michael Keane & Paul Dummett

There have been lots of players linked with Stoke since the final whistle of last season already.

Two of them will be swapping places between the Championship and the Premier League at their current clubs.

Michael Keane’s Burnley will be replacing relegated Newcastle United, Paul Dummett’s side.

It only seems right to combine the two of them in my latest SCFC Links.

I’ll be honest though- I just don’t see these moves happening.

Hughes has had Keane previously scouted and did not take up the option to bid for him in past, so the question has to be; ‘has he improved much in the last year?’.

My opinion is that he has improved, but so have his prospects at Burnley.

Would he want a move away or keep building his reputation at Turf Moor? It’s a situation very similar to Ryan Shawcross back in 2008. Despite the international factor, he’s certainly justified staying at Stoke.

I’d suggest Keane would be best off staying at Burnley and trying to emulate our Ryan.

As for Paul Dummett…really?!

I really hope this link is not followed up- there are plenty better out there for what Newcastle would want in terms of a transfer fee.

Dummett is contracted until 2019 at Newcastle. Add that to Rafa Benitez’s recent contract and Dummett’s love for the club and it’s hard to see him leaving Tyneside.

Let’s hope he’s not making a journey to ST4 any time soon…
