SCFC Links: Yaroslav Rakitskiy

Yaroslav Rakitskiy

Stoke Loud & Proud’s Marc Espley has been busy doing some research again.

The latest man to be monitored is Yaroslav Rakitskiy.

Shakhtar Donetsk’s Rakitskiy is a player we believe that Mark Hughes has been keeping an eye on.

Stoke’s defensive frailties have been rather apparent this past season and much of that has been due to playing an inconsistent back four- partly due to injuries, partly due to form.

Yaroslav is not the tallest of defenders- standing at just under 6ft- but he predominantly plays as a centre back. He can also operate at left back, which would give Hughes more scope in defence, as well as potential competition for Erik Pieters.

Stoke have hit stumbling blocks in their atempts to sign players from Ukraine, but that was when trying to deal with Dynamo Kiev and Dnipro, whose owners seem determined not to sell to a club they see that’s beneath their own.

That makes this deal a little more likely, although it would take a bid of over £7 million to see any movement
