Stevenage 0-4 Stoke City

Goal Crouch Stevenage

Stoke City breezed into the next round of the EFL Cup with a comprehensive victory at Stevenage.

Peter Crouch scored his first hat-trick in Stoke colours, whilst Phil Bardsley hit a screamer to help The Potters to a 4-0 victory.

It could have been more on a comfortable night in Hertfordshire, but it was extremely pleasing to see Crouch grab the match ball- which he ultimately gave away to a young fan at full-time.

The striker’s first was a header from a yard out after Jon Walters had hit the crossbar and he followed that up with an excellent brace in the second period- firstly heading home Marko Arnautovic’s cross before acrobatically scoring from a Joe Allen ball in.

Despite Crouch’s magnificent scissor kick it was Bardsley who scored the goal of the night. The right back unleashed a remarkable left footed strike on the half hour mark that dipped into the top corner.

The victory sets up a home tie with Hull City.

Stoke City: Given, Bardsley, Shawcross (Pieters 74), Cameron, Muniesa, Whelan, Allen (Bojan 85), Walters, Adam, Arnautovic (Ramadan 61), Crouch. Unused: Bachmann, Imbula, Joselu, Diouf.
