The Opposition: Chelsea

Chelsea Stoke

Surely things will improve for Chelsea this coming season.

Last year was disastrous, as the Champions finished behind Stoke in the final league placings.

The impending arrival of Antonio Conte will give a fresh lick of confidence to those at Stamford Bridge, although he’s unlikely to bring an exciting brand of football.

There were too many under performers last season, so the likes of Eden Hazard must step up to the plate.

With the players at their disposal Chelsea should be challenging for the title again, and it’s sure to be a busy summer in West London.

Memorable match: Stoke 3-2 Chelsea. 7 December 2013. This was a match that had everything, ultimately culminating in Oussama Assaidi’s magnificent last minute winner. The substitute’s goal was the reward for Stoke dominating a match against their star studded opponents. Peter Crouch and Stephen Ireland were The Potters’ other scorers, with Andre Schurrle grabbing a brace for the visitors.

2016-17 Fixtures: 31 December (A), 18 March (H).
