The Opposition: Everton

Everton Stoke

Everton had a difficult last season but will be buoyed by the appointment of Ronald Koeman.

It came as a surprise that Koeman was prized from the South Coast and if he does a similar job to what he managed at Southampton then Everton are in for a good ride.

The focal point at Goodison Park will be Romelu Lukaku once again, and his teammates must step up to the plate this time around.

With the passing of time comes the end of careers and Tim Howard will no longer sport his upside down head in an Everton shirt. A new keeper is a priority.

The Toffees will have ambitions of European qualification. There’s no doubt they have the history and quality…it’s just down to whether Koeman can turn the club around sufficiently.

With fresh money behind them Everton are sure to improve on last season’s performance.

Memorable match: Everton 3-4 Stoke. 28 December 2015. Xherdan Shaqiri’s lob, Joselu hugging the referee and Marko Arnautovic’s last minute penalty. This was one of the best matches in Stoke’s history. It may have only been a few months ago but this really was a memorable match. Sadly the return fixture saw Stoke lose 3-0.

2016-17 Fixtures: 27 August (A), 1 February (H).
