Stoke Agree Joe Allen Fee
Stoke have agreed a £13 million fee for Liverpool’s Joe Allen.
The news was broken by the reliable John Percy, sending Stokies into a frenzy.
Allen was named in the Euro 2016 Team of the Tournament ahead of the likes of Paul Pogba following an excellent showing for Wales.
Mocked by many after Brendan Rodgers labelled him the ‘Welsh Xavi’, Allen has flourished at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp.
Should he leave, Allen’s final game for Liverpool was in May’s Europa League final when he lost to Steven Nzonzi’s Sevilla.
But it was during this summer’s European Championships that Allen really made people sit up and take notice.
Only Pogba and Toni Kroos won possession in the middle third during the entire tournament than Allen, who also successfully completed more than 85% of his passes in France.
At 26, the former Swansea midfielder is just entering his prime and will be seen as the ideal long term replacement for Glenn Whelan.
Should Stoke wrap up his signature- which they hope to by the weekend- then it raises serious question marks over Whelan’s first team position.
That’s a lovely selection headache for Mark Hughes to have though. Hopefully it’s a headache that comes true.
