The Opposition: Liverpool

Liverpool Stoke

Liverpool will be confident of future success under Jurgen Klopp.

The German has already guided Liverpool to two finals during his short time in charge at Anfield- although he has lost both.

With a firm eye on Liverpool’s European campaign, Klopp blooded a number of youngsters towards the back end of the last campaign and it’s clear the future is bright for the red half of Merseyside.

New faces will arrive, and Klopp is sure to dip into the Bundesliga market to strengthen his squad.

Stoke memorably went toe to toe with Liverpool in last season’s Capital One Cup semi-final, but deep down you suspect the Reds will pull away from The Potters over the next campaign.

The good times could well be returning to Anfield.

Memorable match: Stoke 6-1 Liverpool. 24 May 2015. This was supposed to be Steven Gerrard’s big farewell, but it turned out to be Stoke’s big win. Their biggest in the Premier League, in fact. Things were so comfortable- it was 5-0 at half-time if you’d forgotten- that we even let Gerrard score. Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch had the last laugh though, with a header in stoppage time.

2016-17 Fixtures: 26 December (A), 8 April (H).
