Ladies Cruise To Friendly Win

Stoke City Ladies made light work of a trip to Manchester City last night.

The Potters cruised to a 2-0 win over the Super League club’s Development Team, with Rach Ball and Emily Owen grabbing the goals.

The match, taking place at Manchester City’s impressive academy, was played on a 3G blue surface- a novel experience for everyone.

But Stoke adapted to the conditions well and, despite a few weary legs, the margin of victory could have been much more.

Ball latched onto a brilliant through ball from Hannah Keryakoplis to open the scoring just before half-time- her lobbed shot hitting the back of the net via the keeper’s fingertips.

Stoke made a number of changes at half-time, and the fresh impetus drove them on to victory.

Keryakoplis whipped in a corner that evaded Cassie Hyde’s head but was knocked in by Owen at the far post.

And Stoke nearly scored a third when lively substitute Millie Elson was brought down in the penalty area. Keryakoplis was denied the goal her display deserved though, with her spot-kick being well saved by Man City’s stopper.

A majority of Man City’s team were internationals at various youth levels, so this was a good test for Stoke. It was a test they came through with flying colours.
