Stoke sit after yesterday’s 2-0 win over Birmingham In 17th place in the league on 49 points.

Is that amount of points good enough to ease the anxiety of the Stoke fans. Let’s have a look at the remaining fixture to see if it’s possible for the teams around us to get above that total.

Let’s start with Stoke on 49 points

Bristol City (a), Brentford (h), Forest (a)

Bristol City have recently changed manager which has coincided with a change in form, winning both game under the new management. This will be a tough game for Stoke, though Bristol won’t be able to play Stoke loan player Benik Afobe against his parent club.

Brentford have their sights set on Automatic promotion & are on the best form in the league, winning the last six games. Stoke have been in good form at home under Michael O’Neill, but think it’s a tall order to get anything out of this game

Nottingham Forest are likely to have safely secured a place in the Play offs prior to this game, so Stoke could benefit if Forest decide to rest players for those games.

Barnsley

Barnsley sit bottom of the league on 43 points, that’s 6 points behind the Potters.

Their remaining fixtures are:
Leeds (a), Forest (h), Brentford (a)

Needing 7 points effectively to go above Stoke due to the goal difference it’s extremely unlikely that they will get those points with their fixtures, especially when Barnsley haven’t won in their last 3 fixtures

Luton

Luton are a point above Barnsley & 5 points below Stoke, Luton did win last time out & have far more favourable fixtures than our own I still can’t see them getting 2 wins needed

QPR (h), Hull, (a), Blackburn (h)

Hull

Hull are 4 points behind Stoke so its possible they could get the desired points, though just like Barnsley they haven’t won in their last 3 games
Wigan (a), Luton (h), Cardiff (a)

Charlton

Charlton haven’t won in the last 4 games but only sit 3 points behind the Potters & their goal difference is pretty much the same as there’s.
Birmingham (a), Wigan (h), Leeds (a)

Huddersfield 

Huddersfield sit just two points behind Stoke on 47 points, they are another team who haven’t won in the last 3 games & have a couple of tough fixtures still to come
Sheffield Wednesday (a) Wba (h) Millwall (a)

Middlesbrough 

Middlesbrough also sit just two points behind Stoke. Boro have only one tough fixture left to come but have been hit & miss under new manager Neil Warnock.
Reading (a), Cardiff (h), Wednesday (a)

Birmingham 

Well what can be said about Birmingham’s prospects of getting any more points this season. Brum currently sit on the same points as Stoke but have not won a game of football in 12 games. So I don’t think whoever they have to play would offer must hope to their fans.
Charlton (h), Preston (a), Derby (h)

We could and should add another two teams into the mix. Wigan & Sheffield Wednesday have possible points deductions imposed up on them bringing them right back into the fold

Wigan

Wigan currently have 54 points but a 12 points deduction has been imposed up on them putting them at the bottom of the table on 42 points. Whether their appeal gets the result they hope is another matter. I don’t think it will, so they need to win every game to get above Stoke’s current total of 49
Hull (h), Charlton (a) Fulham (h)

Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday have has the prospect of a points deduction hanging over them for what seems like years but nothing has been actioned as of yet. Their have been rumoured if possible deductions ranging from 9 points up to 21. It’s likely the lower amount would be more accurate which would put Wednesday 3 points behind Stoke
Huddersfield (h), Fulham (a) Middlesbrough (h)

Their are still plenty of twists & turns left in the league, I’m fairly confident Stoke will stay above those bottom 3 places.
